Sygic Travel from Slovakia announced the launch of Sygic Travel VR, a new app for travelling in virtual reality. It will be complementary to the core product Sygic Travel planner for Android, which gives independent travellers all the info about sights and helps tailor their own travel itineraries in a few minutes. With the VR app containing 360° images and videos from the most popular vacation spots they can virtually walk through a destination and decide whether they want to visit it in real life and include in the agenda. Sygic started working on these travel planning products with the acquisition of 51% of the Czech startup Tripomatic in April.
The most interesting part is that they’ve hired a professional traveller who will spend an entire year travelling the world and recording his journey in 360° adding thousands of videos from every corner of Earth. You can take a midnight tour under the Eiffel Tower in Paris or wander around the medieval old towns of Belgium. I wish I saw this job ad 🙂 At least, according to the info from Sygic Travel, soon users will be able to contribute their 360° content to the platform.
The app will be available for Samsung Gear VR in the Oculus Store. You can get a code for early access at http://www.sygic.com/vr/get-your-code.
