Tripomatic, a global trip-planning tool crafted in the Czech Republic, has just released the 3rd version with major updates and yesterday they got featured on ProducHunt. The itinerary planning service is available for the web, iOS and Android devices.
The new version is map-centric which makes the planning of the itinerary intuitive and efficient. In fact, sights, hotels, tours with extra info are displayed directly on the map and one can add them to their trip, and Tripomatic will automatically arrange your choices the most suitable order and estimates total times and distances for each day of the trip. Thus, the user can estimate the intensity of his agenda. The itineraries can be printed out, saved as PDFs or synced with Tripomatic mobile app for Android and iOS.
The company was founded by a couple, Lukas Nevosad and Barbora Nevosadova, both Czechs who met in Finland and worked together ever since. Barbora shared with GoalEurope their performance metrics, funding plans, platform usage patterns, product development plans.
Goaleurope: What are Triopomatic’s MAU and retention rates for the previous versions of the app?
Barbora Nevosadova: Our mobile apps have been downloaded by nearly 3.5 million travelers. We have 350. 000 monthly active users. On our website we have 54% returning visitors.
GE: Are you making money with the service? How do you monetize it?
BN: We are making money with the service. We are not profitable yet because we decided to invest heavily into user acquisition and building the best product possible. We get revenue from several sources:
- premium service in our mobile apps that enables to use Tripomatic offline,
- and commissions on accommodation, car hire and tours and activities. We’re planning to offer even more premium functions in the following months and we also plan to add options to book other travel-related services.
GE: What are the patterns of usage of Tripomatic service available for web, Android and iOS?
BN: Our average users plan their trip on the website and then follow the itinerary with their smartphone. However, we have very different users - some of them plan their entire trip in the mobile app, some of them use only the website and print their itinerary out. With the new version we have seen many beta users to use Tripomatic for “daydream travel” - they spent an incredible amount of time to build long travel bucket lists.
We also noticed that website users plan their trips more in advance and their itineraries are more complex. Mobile apps users usually plan less and they use Tripomatic for inspiration what to see around their location.
GE: What are other new features you’re working on?
BN: We will enable shared planning really soon - I hope it will be available in several weeks. This has been the most asked for feature among our users for a long time and we are happy to be finally delivering it. We also plan to add options to find information about restaurants. So far we have covered only very special restaurants in each destination and our users asked for improving this. We also plan to offer better way how to plan the transportation within the city.
GE: Are you planning to raise funding?
BN: So far we have bootstrapped and we have only invested money that we gained from our previous projects. However, at the moment we are considering fund raising. We are mostly interested in companies that have experience in the travel industry and we could find synergies to build upon them.
