Jobbatical is an HR platform that enables discovery-savvy geeks and tech-related sales and marketing people to find short-term placements in startups and established software companies across the world. According to Jobbatical, more than 1,000 knowledge workers were already placed through the platform, and Malaysia was the hottest destination.
Yesterday we found out that Australian VC firm AirTree invested $1M into the startup. They hope that Jobbatical will help Australian companies to overcome the undersupply of tech talent.
In the recruiting world, hiring agencies usually charge a percentage (10-12%) of the first year salary if the new employee gets through the trial period. By contrast, Jobbatical monetization model implies that registered companies pay an upfront fee of 2% of the annual salary per job ad, and in addition, the startup offers visa and relocation services.

In March 2014 the startup was launched in Tallinn by two siblings Karoli and Ronald Hindriks and Allan Mäeots. Alumnus of Singularity University, Karoli was named by EU-Startups among TOP 50 most influential women in Europe in the startup and VC scene.
In March 2016 the company raised a seed round of €1.9m led by Union Square Ventures and Local Globe with participation from SmartCap. Before that, the team attracted around €870K in two rounds from angel investors.
