Helsinki Ventures invites IoT startups to apply for its six month-long acceleration program starting in November. The deadline for submissions is September 30.
IoT accelerator is a six month program with a four week bootcamp at the cowering premises in Helsinki, and for the next five months the teams may choose either stay there or “working from home” mode. The curriculum is quite standard for accelerator and includes educational sessions in product design, marketing, branding and legal advice.
The specialty of this IoT acceleration program is its partnership and support from SIGFOX, the only company in the world providing alternative cellular connectivity for the Internet of Things and M2M communications. Earlier this year the French company closed a $115M Series D funding, and TechCrunch wrote about another unannounced $115M round with participation from Samsung. Obviously, startups in Helsinki Ventures accelerator may include SIGFOX technology into their solutions and benefits from the direct access to SIGFOX developer network and fast track to certification.
The program is free and the accelerator doesn’t take any equity from participating startups. Helsinki Ventures takes a 7% success fee (including revenue, grants and funding) received in the first 12 months after the program began. Funding and customer revenue that was secured before the program are excluded.
Helsinki Ventures doesn’t commit to investing in selected teams, but, for your information, they funded around 20% of program alumni. Bttn ($4M in 2 seed funding rounds) and promorepublic ($145K in angel and seed investment) are examples of startups in Helsinki Ventures’ portfolio.
Saku Everi, partner and chairman at Helsinki Ventures, told me that last year the acceptance rate was around 6%, but it obviously depends on the quality of applications.
