The Russian website security startup Wallarm has just raised $500,000 from Runa Capital. Led by co-founder and CEO Ivan Novikov Wallarm is built by former security consultants that worked with Yandex, Mail.ru and Parallels to analyse website security threats.
Wallarm develops a next generation security product that deals with threats from web apps. It analyses website security attacks and helps detect serious threats from the harmless noise. It assesses vulnerability of web application firewall, and helps protect Internet businesses for which the security of their websites is critical, e.g. SaaS, online media, online payment and ecommerce companies.
Wallarm is built to become an essential part of the security development lifecycle. It is an automated process whereby detected security threats are turned into actionable tickets and issued to software developers for processing.
Security space may not be easy to understand and this story not such an interesting read, but it is a good investment for VCs that understand this space. Even though Kaspersky managed to build a global antivirus company without an outside investment, Czech AVG has done well for its backers going public in the NY Stock Exchange.
A couple of years ago I have been helping one security startup connect to venture investors, but they stayed well-clear from this space, preferring easy to judge consumer businesses. Now that B2B is in vogue again, this is slowly changing.
