UPDATED: There are many local online private shopping clubs popping up in Eastern Europe, however according to Tomasz Dalach, the former CEO and co-founder of the largest Polish daily deals business Gruper.pl, there are no Polish businesses concentrating on Home and Living segment, in the key of OneKingsLane.
Thus Dalach and his business partner, former MBA classmate and Gruper co-founder Marcin Mikolajczyk have invested 250,000 Euros in Houzee.pl. Dalach says that the business opportunity has been evaluated already during his time at Gruper, however the decision has later been made to create a separate business, so the Houzee.pl was formed at the beginning of 2013.
At the launch the startup offered 250-300 new products per week, aiming to increase this number to 500, according to CEO of Houzee Adam Fudala. Unlike Rocket Internet-backed WestWing, which offers primarily Western products in Poland, Houzee concentrates on the home and living category designed and supplied locally. Dalach believes that the business will expand internationally after building its presence on the Polish market and sees a lot of potential in Ukraine.
This is the second investment of the Dalach and Mikolajczyk through their vehicle OnlinePartners.pl, after the graphic design marketplace Corton.pl, which gained 90 percent of the Polish market, and attracted over 12’000 graphic designers.
