There is seem to be a consolidation in the Russian online healthcare space, as the two online portals VitaPortal and Zdorovie Online are being merged under VitaPortal brand, and further funded by the existing investors.
Runa Capitaland the founder of Zdorovie Online Aleksey Kandikov are injecting $1,35 million into the new entity ($350K coming from Kandikov). The full list of current investors into the business include Runa Capital, Prostor Capital, Fastlane Ventures and Esther Dyson.
The new funding will be spent on developing new online services and data personalization technology, as well as the mobile side of the business.
Online healthcare has been traditionally a difficult space to invest in, but according Gaidar Magdanurov of Runa Capital the worldwide spending on the IT startups in healthcare adds up to $1,5 billion. In 2012 VitaPortal has raised $2 Million and attracted over 700,000 registered users to its personalized services feature. In 2014 this figure is expected to reach 5 million.
