The main promise of HTML5 development is in its ability to eliminate platform-restrictions on games. Rather than have a team spend time and money to develop for consoles, Android, iOS, etc., the goal is to develop a gaming engine which can support games playable on all future devices. Solpeo says that some of the advantages of their gaming platform include an HTML Canvas isometric renderer with animated graphics and sound, client/server code-sharing for responsive gameplay, a Python-based real-time multiplayer server, and blender integration to use customised 3D objects in-game on demand.
I spoke with Klaudyna Dudzik from Solpeo and she told me that the company is backed by 400,000 Euro from private business angels and Maze Emerging Markets, a London-based advisory and brokerage firm. Tomasz Piwonski is a co-founder and the current CEO of the company, which was founded in Krakow in 2009. Competitors include Games Closure, Construct 2, Isogenic, Leiyoo, and others.
