Russian VC Softline Ventures Partners and the Moscow Seed Fund have teamed up to back a new cloud, SaaS and hosting service provider from Minsk ActiveCloud Development with 142,000 Euro (a figure reported by FIRRMA). The money will be used to develop the CloudBox, a cloud service designed to be able to easily integrate into existing systems. In launching their service, the company will be competing with CloudStack, OpenStack, VMWare, and Cloud Foundry.
In announcing the news, the company said that they are aiming to build a cloud system which will offers customers the ability to manage their billing and multi-vendor development. The service is designed to help ActiveCloud’s clients, such large and medium-sized telecom operators, data centers and integrator companies, and state agencies, who are looking to expand their product portfolio and monetize their consumer base. The company says that one of the expected benefits of this new service will be that it will unite hardware, virtualization and management, billing, and provisioning into a single system. In this, the service will stand out from VMWare, which builds private clouds, and companies like Red Hat KVM, Xen, and others.
ActiveCloud is a well-established hosting provider which was founded in 2003 and is a member of Softline Group. In addition to their headquarters in Belarus, the company also maintains international offices in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, and Uzbekistan. The company also acts as an official APS System Integrator for Parallels, a Russian success story about whom we’ve recently written. We have covered news from the Moscow Seed Fund frequently in recent months, but most recently when they invested in webcam service Probki Iz Okna. In just the past 8 months, we have had stories about joint SVP-MSF investments in IT-man and Context Broker, so the 2 investment groups are certainly no strangers to working with one another.
