Romanian online travel agency Vola.ro reports 7,4 million euro in revenue and 35,000 transactions processed for the first 4 months of 2013, as first reported by Startups.ro. According to an infographic created by the agency, they’ve seen their annual revenue climb from 115,000 euro in 2007 to 15,5 million euro in 2011 (the most recently-reported figure). It’s a pretty nicely-made timeline of the history of the company, so those interested should give it a look. Vola.ro was created by one Romanian and two Polish businessmen, so it’s not surprising that they then began expand internationally with sister sites in Polish FRU.PL (created after Vola.ro in 2007) and Ukrainian AVIA.UA (launched in April 2012).
According to information listed by the company, Vola.ro has had more than 6,8 million visitors to their site since launch in 2007. They also report 600,000 monthly ticket searches and that they earned the #1 position on Deloitte’s 2012 Central Europe Technology Fast 50 with a whopping 17,323% increase in revenue over the previous 5 years. In the Romanian OTA market, Vola competes with domestic services like Delta Travel and international brands like Orbitz, Priceline, Expedia, Kayak, and many others.
