Russian education service Ya Klass has announced $2 million (1,56 million euro) in funding from Vesna Investment, Data Pro Group, and Professionali.ru founder Nikita Halyavin. Ya Klass allows Russian students to test their skills for various grade-levels in algebra, geometry, and Russian language and to take exams in math and Russian.
I spoke with Valerii Nikitin from Ya Klass and he told me that Ya Klass Incorporated currently operates the Russian site YaKlass, the Latvian site Uzdevumi.lv, and the exercise-generation platform GenExis Pro. The GenExis platform has been under development since 2006 by Data Pro Group and acts a tool which can be used by instructors to supplement their regular materials. The service is designed to assist instructors by allowing them to generate exercises based on the data they enter, to help students to develop their skills on their own, and to help parents to better monitor the educational progress of their children.
The Russian Ya Klass is offered as a free service to those who sign up, but the GenExis Pro service is licensed to schools.
In addition to Ya Klass, Russia-based Vesna invests in online retailers like Looksima and Shopogoliq, social business network Connect2me, and in Dasha Gauser, an brand created by a woman of the same name.
