Romanian Monitor Backlinks raises $50,000 (38,300 euro) from Irish venture fund SOSventures, CEO Razvan Girmacea tells us. Last year, we did a piece on the How To Web conference in Romania, where Monitor Backlinks was one of the 30 shortlisted startups.
Monitor Backlinks is a service designed to assist businesses in boosting their rankings in search engines. Girmacea tells me that their targeted client-base is SEO beginners, PR reps, marketeers, and entrepreneurs. As the name of the company suggests, Monitor Backlinks assists companies in keeping up to date on the status of their backlinks. It offers them the ability to receive email alerts for when the status of their backlinks change, manage backlinks in a dashboard, and to have available information about things like Alexa rank, PR, anchor text, etc. The basic plan is free, but the 3 paid plans range from $10-$70 per month, depending on the number of backlinks in question.
I spoke with Girmacea about the company and its future and he told me that it was founded in 2011, but that the team at Monitor Backlinks spent 2012 developing the product and attracting users for the purpose of gaining feedback. He tells me that this $50,000 will be directed towards the already-planned completion of the product and that the next step will be the marketing phase. Girmacea says that they intend to soon begin marketing more aggressively and that the next investment they obtain will be directed towards sales. Although they have 10,000 users at the moment, Girmacea says that they’re taking the business-development process slowly, having not yet perfected the product, and are in no hurry at the moment.
