Polish development company Red Sky is launching a service called SocialDoe to help monetize social media pages. Social-media sites are used by hundreds of millions of people around the world and Red Sky believes that this new service will enable users to make money from their profiles.
Users who maintain Facebook pages are able to monetize their pages with SocialDoe by providing a link to the followers. Those who click on the link will be directed to the owner’s personal site, where they will be targeted by ads. It’s a fairly typical way to make money off of a site, but seems innovative in that it the service is integrated with Facebook.
I had a chance to ask Przemyslaw Marciniak, product manager at Red Sky, and he told that SocialDoe is being funded by Red Sky. The service itself launched in mid-January and has attracted 600 users thus far to its private beta. I’m told that content produced has been seen by the 10,000 monthly users through Facebook.
In terms of plans, Marciniak says that they are hoping to offer content producers the ability publish not only links, but also images, audio, and video. Currently the platform is only integrated with Facebook, but here too they’re attempting to expand their offerings. I’m told that users can likely expect to soon be able to publish content on sites like Twitter and Pinterest. Finally, Marciniak says that users must currently have a Google AdSense account, but that this should also be expanded to include other advertising opportunities. Essentially, the service remains pretty spartan in its private beta, but the team at Red Sky intends to dramatically expand the service as time passes.
Marciniak tells me that they do not have direct rivals and that this is an innovative service, but we’ve recently seen services from the CEE region like Lithuanian Sellfy, Polish Sellbox, and Ukrainian Intubus emerge in an attempt to go head-to-head with the well-backed American service Gumroad in offering people the ability to sell their own content online. From what I am able to ascertain, Marciniak is correct in that SocialDoe does have direct competitors. The other companies mentioned enable users to sell the video, audio, and other digital content from their pages, whereas SocialDoe allows users to profit from ad clicks.
