Ukrainian startup AR23D releases My Dragon Toy, a promotional augmented-reality game which can be downloaded for iOS. A few weeks ago, we reported that this company has raised series A from Ukrainian venture fund AVentures Capital and now they’ve released a promotional game to demonstrate the technology that they’ve been developing. We did a post before about this company’s past successes and seemingly strong prospects, but we’ve decided now to go a bit more in-depth. I asked the company’s CEO and founder, Vitaliy Goncharuk, to tell me a bit about the company and he directed me to an interview he recently gave to the Ukrainian edition of Forbes magazine.
From the interview, we know that the recent deal with AVentures will result in them acquiring 25% of AR23D in exchange for $1 million. Goncharuk says that the company is seeking still more funding and has received interest from more than 10 international venture funds. As we mentioned in the previous post, they’ve already released a number of apps for iOS and Android, among others. Goncharuk says that the company plans to focus on developing mobile applications and providing B2B-solutions for retailers. Most interesting, though, is Goncharuk’s statement that, despite being based in Odessa, they do not have any customers in Russia or Ukraine. He says that their first major order was from a Saudi-Arabian company in 2011 and that they have 5-6 B2B customers located in Europe, the Middle East, and North America, chief among them is the American company GPIXA. Ultimately, Goncharuk says that they would like to be able to capture 10% of the global augmented-reality market.
Now a few words about the recently-released game. In terms of action, this game is pretty simple application. The user can take control of a floating dragon and direct it in various directions with a swipe of the finger. There aren’t points or rules here, but the objective is for users to be able to test the company’s augmented-reality technology. The technology appears to work pretty well based on the video and it would be worth downloading the game to fool around with it. This recently-released game is only available for iOS, but the team is also developing products for Android, Symbian, and Windows Phone.
