DataMind isn’t the only Russian company to announce a major agreement with Russian search giant Yandex. This week as site-building company uCoz has announced that it’s taking over the sites built by Narod, the site-building service from the search company. This deal will transfer 2 million websites from Narod to uCoz, which will make the latter the largest site-building company in the Russian internet market. There is no financial transaction here, but Yandex has decided that its users need an alternative for building their sites, as they are seeking more complex tools that this service can provide.
Since its creation in 2000, Narod (means “people”) has become a major host for websites on the Russian internet, but the service has run its course and will be shutting down. Adding to its present total of 1.2 million sites, this transfer will make uCoz the largest site-hosting and building company in eastern Europe with over 3 million websites. uCoz is a service which enables anyone interested to build a site for free, but also offers a number of subscription-based packages for more advanced users.
