Polish mobile-game maker Tequila Mobile has announced that it has raised 2 million zloty (about 485,500 euros). The investors are SATUS Venture (a fund that we mentioned just a couple of months ago when it invested in the PrivacyProtector) and Innovation Accelerator AI NOT (a Polish seed fund, which is also backed by Satus). The investment comes as Tequila Mobile announced that it is establishing a new studio, Tequila Games, for the purpose of game development, while Tequila Mobile will continue to support Tequila Planet, the platform through which other game developers are able to offer an in-app purchase function within their free-to-play games. This round of funding comes almost exactly a year after the company announced investment totaling $1,7 million (1,27 million euros).
To get a feel for this company’s reach here are some numbers: Tequila Planet have been installed on more than 100 million devices and that their user base has increased by 20 million people over the past 2 years. Free games listed in the Google Play store include Fantasy Kingdom Defense HD and BattleFriends at Sea (there is also a paid-version of the latter). According to Google Play store’s own statistics, Fantasy Kingdom Defense HD has been installed at least a million times and has an average rating of 4.6 stars from more than 40,000 reviews. For its part, BattleFriends at Sea has been installed at least 500,000 times and maintains a 4.4-star rating from more than 12,000 reviews.
Tequila Planet is available across all major mobile platforms and derives revenue through in-games payments using carrier-billing in more than 80 countries, enabling the carriers to monetize their audience and receive a revenue share. In 2011, Tequila Mobile was listed by Deloitte as one of the hottest emerging companies in central Europe.
