Meanwhile in Poland… Startups and deals

startup poland, startup eastern europe

(Yes world cup qualifier game Poland vs England tonight was cancelled because of the torrential rain, I hear you say.)

Ukrainian site Ain.ua translated my TC post about Startup Ecosystem from Eastern Europe, but I learned about it from Polish tech entrepreneurs (Facebook feed, what else?). Then I learned from Polish Antyweb that Ukrainian Countre Jour is available now in a browser. What I love about this is that the region appears to pay attention to itself.

On the subject of Countre Jour, it is now available for Windows 8 too. Accidentally, I came across Microsoft Studio game available for iOS, which has a striking similarity to Countre Jour: it is called Tentacles, the same eye design, similar haunting music, same tentacle physics. Interesting.

…

Meanwhile in Poland SentiOne, the social media monitoring startup got backed by the angel investor Daniel Lewczuk, the co-founder of the Polish professional network Goldenline.pl. Just to remind you, another co-founder of Goldenline Mariusz Gralewski has earlier backed Brainly, the social education network, which also received funding from Point Nine Capital. Hat tip to MamStartup.

Also Greg Marczak of leading Polish tech blog Antyweb broke the news today about Polish Internet Holding Allegro (part of South African media holding Naspers)  bought Polish Digg called Wykop.pl. On Wykop the news got over a 1000 votes.

PayLane.com, an online payments processing provider from Poland announced that it introduced wire transfers today.

Coworking space Reaktor Warsaw continues a series of talks by technologists, entrepreneurs and investors. One of the most recent one was by Simon Cross, the product manager at Facebook (amusing: googling Cross’s name in relation to Facebook gives his LinkedIn profile first. Ahh, social networks).Watch his presentation here.

Good evening.
