The good news is that over 10 million people are using Prezi, the zooming presentation software from Hungary. The company also boasts that it adds one million users every month. A recent funding round of $14 million from Accel Partners must have helped fuel marketing efforts but also the company claims to be cashflow positive from the first year of operation.
The bad news is that majority of users still rely on Microsoft PowerPoint (including myself), letting businesses such as Slideshare grow and prosper.
From now on Prezi offers to upload Power Point slides into Prezi presentations, although built-in animations which are sometimes used by advanced PowerPoint users cannot be retained, as Juli Precsi told me. To integrate animations into Prezi one would need to create a flash movie or a video of that very same animation.
So now you can upload your boring power point slide, place them around a cool image (see the tutorial video at the top of this post), and enjoy zooming functionality to focus your listeners’ attention. Just like this prezi of Coca Cola, which has been viewed 2.7 million times.
Actually this one about Prezi is much much better.
