Startup Mondays are getting interesting: funding news and more
May 21, 2012

The Monday morning starts with a discovery that one of the precious rare Ukrainian venture capital firms TA Venture spent money on an American startup (as per the stated investment strategy). The total amount of investment was not disclosed. Other co-investors included Fabrice Grinda and Jose Marin.

Bad news for Ukrainian startups, great news for the brides around the world. Tailored was created to help brides and their wedding parties get inspired and discover new products for the big day. In a way, Tailored is a personal shopper crossed with a wedding planner, and will compete with Pinterest on wedding products discovery.

The business selling bridal goods either directly through Tailored or via its affiliate marketing program which now includes 160 partners looks interesting, considering that couples spend over $25 000 on weddings and over $70 billion is spent annually in the US alone. The only downside of such portal is long-term consumer loyalty, unless divorce rates continue to grow.

TA Venture is consistent with its strategy, as its portfolio already includes British Fantasy Shopper (gamified social commerce), Russian Pixonic (social games publisher), German Linguee (online translation solution) and a joint venture with the Swiss Bravofly (online travel).
