Last week Bulgarian capital Sofia has hosted a conference for information technology Webit Congress for the third consecutive year. On the 26-27th of October 5000 participants from the 45 countries had a chance to hear presentations of over a hundred of well known international speakers in the area of tech entrepreneurship, investment, ecommerce, online marketing and advertisement, general management, design, software development, gaming and telecommunications. You name the subject, it is likely it was discussed at the event.

The main stage was at the heart of Webit Congress, where top experts from the global digital industry presented their ideas and expertise discussing problems and challenges of the digital economy. The speakers included executives from Microsoft, eBay, PayPal, Google, Facebook, Saatchi & Saatchi and many others.

This year, for the first time Webit held DevCamp workshop, a place to meet for the geeks of Central and Eastern Europe. StartUp Village attracted early stage investors and business angels to meet over 50 startup companies from the region. One of the presenters was Lithuanian Ilja Laurs, co-founder of GetJar, a technology pioneer, according to World Economic Forum. GetJar is a free cross-platform mobile app store, competing at par with the likes of Apple, Google and Nokia.

The Creative Lounge focused on trends and business models of the digital world. Discussion poitns included variety of advertising formats, the process of its creation and deployment, as well as development of video content amongst other topics.

At the GamesVille, game publishers, advertisers and investors had a chance to explore new opportunities and the future of the online gaming and entertainment industry.

Open Theater offered discussions on the subjects such as mobile and digital marketing and advertising, e-commerce and social media address by representatives of premium services and solutions in this sector.

The only problem with Webit Congress was the time overlap with other technology and entrepreneurship conferences, such as Dublin Web Summit and Ukraine’s IDCEE. The time is ripe to consolidate eastern European events to create one go-to conference to learn about the region’s tech entrepreneurship and innovation.
